A poetograph about a kayaker who falls in love with the ocean that will surely consume him
“Poetograph?” you ask, but you are already guessing the answer, and you’re probably correct. The way I do it is I lay a poem over a photograph. Most of the time I wrote the poem, and I took the photograph.
For some artists of this new-ish medium, the poem must be set to the side. Read the poem, then shift your gaze to the photo. Go back and forth.
I like to put the words on the photo, and keep them small. In the best scenario I would invite you to look at a very large print. You would stand back to see the photo, and step forward to discern the words. Back and forth like that. Interactive, experiential, a little bit of work. In this way, the medium is not well-suited to internet sharing, which is my ideal.
But here we are, using the internet, all the same.
